Braille chess is a specially adapted version of chess designed for visually impaired players. It follows standard chess rules but includes specific modifications to make the board and pieces identifiable through touch:
Board Navigation: Dark squares are raised 4mm higher than light squares, ensuring clear tactile distinction.
Piece Recognition: Chess pieces have a Staunton-like design, ensuring easy recognition and differentiation.
Side Distinction: Dark pieces feature slight spikes on top, allowing them to be distinguished from light pieces.
Piece Stability: A peg-and-hole system secures each piece in place, preventing accidental movement and ensuring a steady game.
Print Instructions & Recommendations:
It is highly recommended to clean the build plate with warm water and soap prior to printing to eliminate the potential adhesion problems.
Support is only required for the pieces in the Braille version. Every other part of the model should be printed withoutsupports.
3MF files prepared in PrusaSlicer are also included.
Assembly Instructions:
Assembly requires no additional tools, materials or post-processing for standard versions. It is a simple print and play model.
Braille version would only require the removal of the supports for the chess pieces.
For embedded magnet versions:
Each print profile includes 8 plates. Caps and checker pieces do not have magnet slots and should be printed in all cases. The remaining 6 plates are for the board and pieces, designed for two magnet sizes: 8x2mm and 6x2mm. To ensure compatibility, select and print only two plates, one for the board and one for the pieces, that match your chosen magnet size.
During printing, the profile will pause automatically at the designated layer, allowing you to insert the magnets before resuming. If your nozzle is magnetic, it may pull the magnets out of the slots when printing continues. To prevent this, apply a small amount of glue before resuming to secure the magnets in place.
