Description
If you're not into woodworking, you can just print out some angular, geometric chess pieces.
But if you are, this contains a full set of jigs that can ride on your miter gauge or cross-cut sled to make some awesome chessmen. The kerf is in the same place for each jig, so one stop block positions every jig. Just set your blade height, put the piece against the jig stops, and go.
Scad file allows making pieces of any size and coming up with your own design, with your own cuts. By specifying the blank size and the positioning of cuts, it will produce a mock up of the cut piece and the necessary positioning jigs.
Blank dimensions:
Pawn: ¾" square, 1 ½" long
Rook: 7/8" square, 2" long
Knight: 1" square, 2 ¼" long
Bishop: 1 1/8" square, 2 ½" long
Queen: 1 ¼" square, 2 ¾" long
King: 1 3/8" square, 3" long
This is a bit smaller than FIDE standard, but follows the official proportions. These are chunky pieces and have good board presence.
Pieces in the photos are made of ash and ipe, finished with tung oil.
