Little Chess Set with Staunton inspired Pieces

A complete chess set with pieces created entirely with a 3D printer. No AMS system is required. Only a little super glue is needed. The side length of the chessboard is 200 mm, and the height of the king is 48 mm.

It is printed with a layer height of 0.2 mm. There are no special requirements for the printer, and it should be printable with any 3D printer whose build plate can accommodate the board.

A filament change was performed for the side rails with the lettering so that the rails are brown and the lettering is white. This should be possible with any printer that can pause printing and supports filament changes. If a filament change is not possible, the side rails can also be printed in one color. In that case, however, the lettering will not be colored but will merely be raised.

PLA filament in white, black, brown, and beige was used. However, everyone can choose their favorite colors for the chess set themselves.

The black board (Board Black.stl) can be printed without special settings at a layer height of 0.2 mm.

The file for the white squares (Field White.stl) can be loaded into the slicer and then cloned 31 times, so that a total of 32 white squares are printed. The layer height here is also 0.2 mm.

The borders (Border 1.stl, Border 2.stl, Border 3.stl, Border 4.stl) can be placed on one print bed. The layer height is 0.2 mm. The border is 4.6 mm high and consists of 23 layers. The first 20 layers are printed in a dark color. In layer 21, a filament change is set in the slicer, and the filament is changed to a light color, after which the border is printed to completion. If the color change is too complex, the entire border can also be printed in one color.

The pieces need to be printed twice. Once in a light color and once in a dark color. The layer height is again 0.2 mm. If a better resolution is desired, a lower layer height can be used. I used a height of 0.12 mm. For the pieces, automatic tree support must be enabled for them to print correctly. With Orca Slicer or Bambu Studio, the supports can be removed very easily after printing.
