Update 08/06/2025: Added a new version of the Muzzle (Hippo_8_Extended Muzzle). I extended the front of the muzzle so it gives more compression for the string and may give a performance boost. You can attach a longer Picatinny rail (Hippo_24_Picatinny for extended muzzle).
Update 31/05/2025: I added STEP files of all pieces that use screws for the assembly. If you change things, tag them as Remixes, thanks!
Hello hello nerfers!
This is The Hippo, a new project I've been working on for the last 2 months and first time working on a Nerf Rival blaster.
This is a hopper fed string pistol that uses Rival (and X-shot chaos rounds) and holds up to 24 rounds in total. I recommend max 22 for better feeding. The performance is in the low to mid ranges of Rival, depending on the bungee string you use, but makes up for its high capacity. Because it's a string blaster and not an air Rival one, the behavior of the rounds is kind of unpredictable.
You also have the possibility to turn it into a single shot pistol or a Mega dart launcher, if you want for some reason (check assembly manual).
I strongly advice to read the instruction manual (linked in the files as a PDF) and check how to assemble, and especially how to fire this blaster. You have to get used to the priming and trigger pull. Anyways, all the stuff and details you need to know are in the manual.
Before you print, you need some specific hardware parts:
- 15 screws (e.g. from Nerf blaster)// about 6mm OD diameter for the head, 2mm OD for the body, and 15mm of length
-2-4 screws of same type, but 10mm of length for the picatinny rails
-a bungee string, 4mm to 5mm thickness max // about 21 cm length (before cutting) for a 40kg bungee cord.
-a rubber band
Print Settings:
Yes (only for over hang of the hopper piece)
0.2 mm
at least 25%
PLA or PETG
any
bright (for muzzle)
And that’s pretty much it. I may add new parts in the future.
For now, hope you enjoy this blaster and happy Nerfing!!
