Description
*This model is a work in progress. I haven't had a chance to do a test launch, but I wanted to get it uploaded before the summer ended.
The Starship Super Heavy Version 3 Model Rocket takes inspiration from the SpaceX Starship update presentation from May 2025. This rocket was designed to be used with Estes 24mm D12-3 motor, and Estes 3/16" launch pad rod. It is a single stage version of Starship, the motor is loaded into the Booster and Starship is the Nose Cone. To capture the rocket design and achieve flight stability this rocket features removable Booster Fins. You can display the rocket at home with the Booster Fins removed, and when you are ready to launch you can install the Booster Fins which are locked in place with the Motor Cap. *Do not attempt to launch the Rocket without the Booster Fins installed.*
The rocket is 24" tall and 42mm in diameter. It will weigh about 215 grams with the motor installed and it will fly about 600 feet. It is 3D printed in ABS plastic and it is made up of 13 different parts; the nose cone assembly 20g, starship assembly 52g, booster assembly 64g, 4 booster fins 23g, and the motor cap 9g. For reference I included an image of the Open Rocket design file with the target weights for each assembly.
*Do not attempt to launch the rocket without the Booster Fins installed.*
*Use ASA or ABS Plastic - PETG will throw off the weights and PLA will deform*
*Nose Cone Assembly - add infill with a target weight of 20 grams total*
*Use Estes 24mm D12-3 motor, and Estes 3/16" launch pad rod*
Assembly: Test fit parts before assembly, make any adjustments needed with sand paper. Install Shock Cord on Lower Booster Tube Mount. Glue Lower Booster Tube to Upper Booster Tube. Glue Starship Body parts together and use clamps on the fins. Glue Nose Cone parts together and use clamps on the fins. Glue Nose Cone to Starship Body. Glue Starship Shoulder to Starship Body. Attach the Shock Cord to Starship Shoulder, and then add the Parachute.
