I mixed around the pieces on my 3d chess board, and found that you can use the same pieces from the first version to make the second version! Here are the piece quantities:

3inch: 8x
2.5inch: 12x
2inch: 16x
1.5inch: 12x
1inch: 8x
0.5inch: 4x
