LEGO Technic Weighted Counterweight – Part 80428 (Liebherr LR 13000 - #42146)

The original LEGO Technic counterweight for the Liebherr Crawler Crane LR 13000 - #42146 relies on stacking identical solid elements. While visually accurate, the total mass is limited, which can reduce stability when lifting heavy loads or extending the boom.

This model is a hollow replacement version of the 80428 counterweight stack, designed to be:

• 3D printed

• Filled with lead weights / shot

• Sealed by gluing the top weight in place

The result is a counterweight that looks correct on the model but provides significantly more mass, improving crane stability without external mods.

Design concept

• Internal cavity sized for loose lead weights or shot

• Top piece acts as a cap and is glued after filling

• Exterior dimensions match the stacked weight appearance

• Intended as a display and functional stability mod

Printing recommendations (FDM)

• Material: PETG or PLA

• Layer height: 0.20 mm

• Perimeters: 3–4

• Infill: 10–20% (shell strength matters more than infill)

• Supports: Yes

• Orientation: Print upright as designed

Assembly

1. Print the hollow weight body

2. Fill with lead weights / lead shot to desired mass

3. Apply glue (CA or epoxy) to the mating surface

4. Glue the final top weight in place

5. Allow full cure before mounting on the crane
