Seven Woods Puzzle

This is Stewart Coffin's design #42.  In wood it is normally made from seven wood types.  Here you can make it in one, three or seven colors.

You need to make six copies of the basic piece, piece variations are only in the color.  There are two ways to make this puzzle.  The easy way is to print two copies of the basic piece in three colors (or all in one color for a monochrome version). A 3mf file is included for this.

The second way uses seven colors like the wood versions.  Each piece is printed in three parts which snap together.  Print six bases in one color.  Print two of the tips in 6 different colors.  No supports are needed for either version. To assemble the pieces, group the colors in 3 pairs, and make one piece from each pair by snapping two tips onto the base (see photos).  If the joints are loose and come apart you may want to glue them together.  The joints on my copy are tight and I did not do this.

Assembly of the puzzle is not difficult (if you know the trick).  Be careful of the sharp points on the pieces!  I found that the 7 color version was loose, probably due to the joints.  I recommend the 3 color version, the fit was perfect.
