Game Rules for Barrel Monkeys Balance Game

Objective

Build the tallest, most stable tower while hanging monkeys from the structure without causing anything to fall. The player who runs out of monkeys wins.

Components

  • Barrel with Lid (barrel fits the base and depending on how many pieces you print, it should all fit in the barrel!

  • 1 Base Platform

  • Tower Segments (there is files for 5 different variations of tower segments)

  • Monkeys (styled after the classic Barrel Monkeys)

Setup

  1. Place the Base Platform in the center of the table.

  2. Shuffle or mix the Tower Segments into a pile.

  3. Each player takes 5-10 monkeys (more for longer games).

  4. Choose a starting player.

How to Play

Players take turns stacking. Each players turn should consist of 2 parts.

1. Add a Tower Segment

  • Choose any segment from the pile.

  • Place it on top of the existing tower.

  • If the tower collapses during your placement, see Penalties.

2. Hang a Monkey

  • Hang one monkey from any legal point on the tower:

    • Hooks

    • Ledges

    • Slots

    • Other monkeys

  • The monkey must hang freely without touching the table and the tower must maintain it's balance.

After your turn, remove your hands, if nothing falls, your turn is successful.

If anything falls — a monkey, a segment, or the entire tower — you take a penalty.

Penalties

If something falls on your turn:

  • You must take back the monkey you attempted to place.

  • You must add an extra monkey to your personal supply.

  • Rebuild the tower.

  • Your turn ends immediately.
