Miniature Nest Swing for Sylvanian Families / Calico Critters

Overview

Every Sylvanian village needs a playground! This Nest Swing is designed to be sturdy enough for actual play while looking great on display. Unlike standard swings, the "nest" design allows multiple small figures (like the babies or twins) to sit together.

I designed this with a separate ring and "net" insert so you can easily print them in contrasting colors without needing a multi-material setup.

Components

The model consists of the following parts:

• Frame: 2 Columns, 2 Beams, and 1 Crossbar.

• The Nest: 1 Outer Ring and 1 Concave "Net" (with pre-modeled holes for easy threading).

Printing Instructions

For the best look and strength, I recommend these settings:

• Material Suggestions: * Frame: Wood-filled PLA (for a natural "timber" look).

  • Ring: Brown PLA.

  • Net: Yellow or Beige PLA.

• Layer Height: 0.2mm.

• Infill: 30% (Provides good weight and ensures the columns are sturdy).

• Supports: None required! The parts are designed to print cleanly as-is.

Assembly & Hardware

To hang the swing, you will need:

1. Hanging Line: You can use a thin wire, heavy-duty thread/fishing line, or a small jewelry chain.

   • Note: I found that wire is much more durable for play than a small chain, which tends to fall apart!

2. Crimping Sleeves: 8x small crimp beads or sleeves (4 for the nest, 4 for the crossbar) to secure the wire.

3. Setup: Thread the wire through the holes in the "Net" part, snap the net into the ring, and secure the other end to the crossbar.
