Description
The first statue of a Megalosaurus was made when there was much less information about the physical structure of dinosaurs, and it was imagined as a four-legged creature, much like a giant lizard. There was a lot of interest in dinosaurs that fit into the feeling of scientific, industrial, and intellectual progress that seemed to be gaining speed in the mid-Victorian period. This Megalosaurus was made, along with the other dinosaurs and arranged in a life-sized exhibit in Crystal Palace Park. Further research determined that the Megalosaurus was a two-legged dinosaur, but a fondness for the four-legged Megalosaurus had already been established, and remains to this day.
