Description

A small rotating dial that tracks a running kill count through a

window under a skull-and-crossbones motif. Built for the **Frosthaven

Lurker** class's Deepwraith personal quest (the 5-kill version),

but the same .scad also exports a 0-9 variant that works as a

generic board-game counter for anything you like — lives, rounds,

damage, casualties, coffees before lunch.

What's in the bundle

Two variants, four STLs each (eight total), plus the parametric .scad

source. Pick one variant; print the four STLs in two filaments.

  • 0..5 — Lurker Deepwraith personal-quest tracker (6 positions: 0, 1, 2, 3, 4, 5).

  • - 0..9 — generic counter (10 positions), same disc size.

How it goes together

Two physical pieces that snap together once and stay:

  1. Base — the larger wavy disc with a central post sticking up.

  2.    The counter digits sit flush-inlaid on the top face in contrast colour.

  3. 2. Cap — a smaller wavy disc with a hole down the middle and a

  4.    window cut through its rim. A raised skull-and-crossbones sits on top.

The post has a small 0.4 mm ring ridge near its top. The cap's

bore has a matching pocket above a narrower body, with **four

vertical slits** in the bore wall. Pushing the cap onto the post

forces the four petal-segments of the bore wall to flex outward just

enough to let the ridge pass; once the ridge clears the body, the

petals spring back and the ridge is trapped in the pocket. The cap

now spins freely around the post but can't lift off under table

handling. Press once, stays forever. (The source exposes the ridge

diameter if you want it removable — drop it from 10.8 mm to 10.6 mm.)

To read the current value, **hold the skull-cap steady with one hand

and twist the base with the other** — the base's wavy rim sticks out

below the cap, so each disc has its own independent finger-grip

surface. The active digit shows through the window under the skull.

Printing (Bambu Studio / AMS, two colours)

  • Filament A (body / structural) — cap body + base body

  • - Filament B (accent) — cap skull + base numbers

Import all four STLs; they share an origin so they line up correctly.

Assign filament A to the two body parts and filament B to the skull

and numbers. No supports needed — every overhang is ≤ 45°.

Print notes

  • Flat on the bed, 0.2 mm layer, 2-3 walls, 15% infill.

  • - PLA or PETG; tested on Bambu P2S with standard PLA Basic.

  • - Assembly — press the cap straight down onto the post. It'll

  •   take a firm push to get the ridge past the bore-body; you'll hear

  •   a faint tick as the petals settle into the pocket. That's it — no

  •   glue, no fasteners, done.

  • - If the cap feels too tight rotating after snap-in, ream the

  •   bore (body section only, not the pocket) by 0.1 mm with a drill

  •   bit. If it rattles, wrap one turn of PTFE tape around the post.

Source

The kill_counter.scadexposes all the dimensions (disc size, post

fit, ridge interference, number range, skull placement, window span)

as variables at the top. Override n_valueson the command line to

export any other range.
