Trog - Pivoting, Punching Caveman Action Figure

This is a spring loaded, pivoting, punching caveman action figure. There are two main pieces, the top and the bottom, and four strengths of interchangeable springs. The springs provide a pivot point with snap-back action which allows the torso/top piece to swivel or pivot around the legs/bottom piece. There are four spring strengths: 7, 10, 13 & 16mm coil heights. Taller coils have more tension. The torso/top piece increases in elevation above the bottom/leg piece by the coil height of the spring, because the top rests on the spring coil, which rests on the bottom piece.

The top piece needs to be printed with supports. The bottom piece and springs do not need supports. I suggest that you print the 16mm spring first to try it out.

Note: before fully assembling the piece, test the fit of the spring in both pieces. The tolerances are fairly tight and the spring can get stuck, especially in the bottom piece. This is very difficult to remove if stuck in place when the pieces are put together because attempting to pull apart the pieces to remove the spring will just stretch the spring until it is damaged. The springs are intended to be easily interchangeable. Sand the spring post and/or spring end if either does not easily insert and remove from the corresponding pieces.

I designed this as a study on 3D printing coil springs, and to be part of a game, but it needs some refinements (such as greatly reducing the size and printing time). However, it took a while to get the design to this point, and I don't know when I will get back to the refinements, so I decided to post it. The game refinements will have to wait for another day. I will paint the final version when I get around to finishing it. :)
