Description
This is my remix of www.thingiverse.com/thing:3178365 by ath64. I really like his puzzle, but wanted it to be printable without supports so I made the axle a separate part. I then made the end of the box solid and made slots for the axle to drop into. I made wedges to keep the axle in place. I also made spacers to keep the rotors separated. I made mine with 3 rotors, but could have had more.
I wanted to make a box that couldn't be opened far enough to see how the mechanism works like the one Mr Puzzle demoed in ath64's video link. That one had a maple leaf on the top of the box hiding a wooden dowel that ran through the lid and limited how far the box could open. In my version, I wanted to put my granddaughter's name on the box. I extruded the name with two plastic pins that go through the lid. One doesn't quite go all the way through, while the other one penetrates the lid about a millimeter. Just enough to stop the lid from coming off, but not enough to interfere with whatever is placed in the box.
I have included a blank lid if you don't care about hiding the mechanism. If you want to add your own personalization and/or hide the mechanism, you can print the lid with the holes in it and add a name or logo or whatever. The holes are 52mm apart on center, and 2.4mm diameter. The lid is 5mm thick.
Thanks ath64 for a great design!
