Description

A simple Rocket and UFO to start off my Space collection.

More to come soon...

These are among my very first 3D designs. I'd appreciate any feedback!

Print Settings

Printer:

QiDi Tech Dual Extruder 3D Printer

Rafts:

Yes

Supports:

No

Resolution:

0.20mm

Infill:

10%

Notes:

Notes on printing the UFO:
You can print the UFO as one piece (use the ufo.stl OR UFO\_Body.stl + UFO\_Ring.stl files) with a raft and supports or as 2 halves that can be glued together (use the UFO\_halfRing.stl and UFO\_halfBody.stl files).

I found that printing 2 halves and using a hot glue gun to put them together eliminated the need for supports and made for a smoother finished product. You can use glow-in-the dark glue for an added cool effect.

For a 2-color print, just center the body and ring files on the print bed and assign each to a different extruder. In the photo, I used HatchBox Glow-in-Dark filament for the Body and HatchBox Silver for the Ring.

Notes on printing the Rocket:

Print it upside down (ie with the nose down and the wings up) to avoid supports. I found I needed a raft to prevent it from tipping over while printing. Once done, it will stand up on its own.

Post-Printing

Glue the 2 UFO halves together with a hot glue gun.

How I Designed This

This thing was made with Tinkercad. Edit it online

Rocket: https://tinkercad.com/things/emxlTF4PMoe

The Rocket is based on the instructions in James Floyd Kelly's excellent book, 3D Modeling & Printing with Tinkercad, published in 2014 by Pearson Education. I highly recommend his book for any novice 3D printers/designers out there like me.
