Root Board Game 3D Buildings and Tokens (Every Expansion Including Marauder + Hirelings, Multicolor)

Hi! This collection of Root 3D buildings and tokens was put together by myself in order to have a nice print-at-home alternative to the popular MeepleSource Root pieces. Almost very single piece in this collection is set to be able to be printed in multiple colors (denoted by the MC in the gcode file name) with the base as the faction color and the rest of the piece in various colors that would match the building/token as that looks the best on the board, but printing them as single (faction) colors shouldn't look too bad either.

Most of the faction colors are pretty common, but the lizards, otters, and moles are slightly more niche; I used the following filaments for those respectively:

• Inland Matte PLA Filament 1.75mm Matte Lulz Green
• Inland 1.75mm Light Blue PLA+
• Inland 1.75mm Bone White PLA+

I printed the majority of these pieces in Sunlu PLA+, Inland PLA+ (as well as PLA Pro and the above “Matte PLA” Lulz Green), and for anything that is assumed to be made of stone (e.g., cat keep, rat strongholds, etc.) + the badger bases, the default Prusament gray PLA spool that gets shipped with the i3 MK3S+. For stone parts, I'll probably get a less shiny gray filament and reprint but for now it looks nice enough to use as is.

The uploaded gcode files are profiled to my custom 0.2mm (I found this resolution to be the perfect balance of speed and quality) settings (e.g., 3 perimeter walls and 15% cubic infill) and Sunlu PLA+ filament (215°/65° extruder and bed temps respectively), so if that sounds good to you, feel free to use the files and start printing immediately, otherwise I've uploaded the PrusaSlic3r .m3f files so you can change the printer and filament settings and slice the models yourself.

Note on super-glueing: remember to let the pieces sit in open air for at least 24 hours after you finish super-glueing everything, otherwise if kept inside a container (like I did…) the super-glue fumes(?) end up sticking back onto the pieces and creating a white tacky film over them. I was able to get this film off by using 91% isopropyl alcohol sprayed on baby wipes to clean it off but you can definitely avoid that extra work by not storing the pieces too early after assembly.

That's basically it – I'd love to see others print this entire set; it did take quite a while, but honestly that's due to having to change filaments over and over and over again, although its well worth it in my opinion. 😅

Future Plans

This project was a fun dive into Blender and while the bird claw icons for the top of the roost buildings didn't come out exactly how I wanted them to, I'd love to keep adding to this collection by modeling and printing out 3D items for the board/Vagabond. In saying that, keep an eye out for any future updates to this upload in the near future. :)

Storage

I'm keeping these pieces in the Marauder expansion and Kickstarter Hirelings boxes as shown in the storage pictures; the containers I'm using to store these pieces are the following:

Unfortunately I can't find a graceful way to store the moles' burrow, so that'll just have to be kept to the side on top of the Root boxes in my kallax and used only when the moles are being played.

  • Uploaded the correct number of cat buildings – I originally had five of each building, but the cats need six of each.
  • Uploaded a picture of a 2 player game between the Cats and Moles, along with the Badger hirelings!
  • Reuploaded the recruiter signs since they weren't exported as multi-color.
