NOTICE: If you are printing this for the 2022 LM Show Christmas community print drive, please follow the guidelines posted at https://print.thelmshow.com/pages/2022-christmas-community-print-drive-guidelines to provide strong safe toys for the kids.
UPDATE: over 800 of these small rockets were printed for the 2022 toy drive and distributed throughout the USA and several foreign countries. Thanks to everyone who contributed to the effort!
This is my first attempt at modeling. I used the Fusion360 free version.
The rocket model prints out to 98mm tall and consumes approximately 41g of filament at 15% infill. I printed it at .2 layer height and sped the printing up to 150% once the print got high enough to support all three struts and the fuselage as one. It took me about 3h 40m to print on a Fokoos Odin-5 f3. No supports, printed sitting on its base. I used Polymaker PLA Pro Red.
The lithophane is tiny (17.5 mm dia) and prints in 10 minutes at a reduced speed. I used 0.12 layer height @30mm/sec. I printed this with Polymaker PLA Pro white but any white PLA should work okay. I used lithophanemaker.com to create it, so if you want to make a different pic go there! If you choose this option it MUST be glued in for child safety. you will notice that it doesn't snap in because I filleted the ledge in case little fingers entered while in telescope option mode. If you have older eyes like me you must hold the rocket away from your face to focus and look toward a bright light. It's a work in progress I guess!
If you print this please upload your photos to Printables so I can see your models. I think color change stripes would look amazing! Enjoy!
