Description
I designed these things for my Sanwa OBSF-30 buttons, to silence the 'clacking' sound when the button is bottomed out from a hard press. Sanwa makes 'silent' buttons, which are very nice, but have a different 'rubbery' feel to them and are only offered in a limited selection of colors. The idea for my design was directly inspired by the commercially available 1mm thick foam material silencers pads you find at the popular online arcade suppliers.
Like the commercial pads, the buttons won't become completely silent with these, but they will be much quieter. Since they are only 0.5mm thick, the original button travel is only slightly reduced. A common reason why some folks don't like the thicker foam pads is they can be thick enough to occasionally eat a soft press. These pads are so thin they don't engage until the button is pushed well past the 'closed' position. This means these silencers won't 'eat a soft press'.
*Assembly:*
Print one pad for each button using TPU filament. Typically the nozzle will leave behind a 'blob' on the top where it lifts after finishing the print; cut any such blobs off with flush cutters (fingernail also work well). Remove your Sanwa plunger from the button by gently squeezing the plunger clips inward while pushing the plunger up. With the plunger removed, insert the pad so the ears fit in the slots where the plunger tabs fit (see photo). Replace the plunger by carefully pushing it on until the tabs click in place. Install button in your control panel, and enjoy a stealthier approach to your games. :)
