Edit 1: WARNING: if you have downloaded or printed piece 31 of 32 before this edit it had a mistake that made the pieces unable to fit together. I have fixed the mistake as of this edit.
Edit 2: added photos of the finished print
A unique 3D puzzle of my own design.
You start by adding the central rod to the botom piece and then you puzzle the rest together. When your puzzle is complete you screw on the top and it should stay together so it can be hung in a christmas tree. It'll be fun to get it out of the tree to let visitors try and assemble the puzzle.
A perfect gift for puzzle fans and a great conversation piece for 3D printing at the christmas table.
Designed in blender made specifically for 3d printing.
I made sure to give the pieces plenty of clearance so they should be printable on all printers but to make sure i added 2 test pieces so you can test the tollerances in order to make “horizontal expansion” ajustments in your slicer if needed.
The puzzle pieces print easily at 0.2 but most do require supports for the overhangs. I have oriented them so to print with the least amount of support necessary and it's not a lot of support material but was inevitable for the puzzle pieces.
Now the difficult part of this print is the central rod and the screw top. They are designed with m6 screw thread but they do require a well tuned printer. i found that runing them on and off small bits at a time with some lubrication made them fit well after a while. what works even better is if you take a metal M6 bolt and nut and screw them on a few times will make the plastic pieces fit together the best. I found printing the screw top at 105% made it fit with little effort so i added both the origional and the 105%. Also added a centre rod with an allen wrench inset to make screwing on the top when the puzzle is assembled easier. (i will keep working on a different design for the rod connection to make it printable for those who aren't able to fit the screw.)
The piece files are numbered (not the pieces themselves) to keep track of which parts you've printed but print everything first, mix them and then start your puzzle, don't rob yourself of the fun.
I'm still in the process of printing mine but i didn't want to miss out on the contest, i will upload the completed print in the comming days.
The design took me days of work so please don't go selling it or passing it off as your own somewhere else. Link back to me if you share. And if there's anything you'd like changed or find problems feel free to contact me, i'll see what i can do.
I'll be making more puzzles and models so please check out my other designs on my profile and don't forget to like and post your makes!
