The RaceBox Mini

February 10, 2023
Description
The RaceBox Mini is a 3D printed die-cast car carrier with a twist. Open the lid, remove the cars, lock the handle in place, and flip it over to make a ramp for jumping and racing!
My three-year-old son provided the inspiration for the RaceBox. He loves his!
There are two versions of the RaceBox: full and mini. This is the RaceBox Mini, which holds two cars. The full holds four. The STL and STEP files for the full version are available on Etsy here.
The RaceBox Mini is 89x198x45mm.
The RaceBox (4 cars) is 169x198x45mm.

Updated RaceBoxMini file to R4. Fixed a missing fillet.
Post-Printing
It's easy!
Just pop those parts off your printer, snap the handle into place, and go race some cars!!
How I Designed This ===================
By many many iterations.
The RaceBox has a lot of important fits, and I needed it to be completely usable by my two year old. That meant I had to carefully dial in all of the springs and clips to make them strong enough to hold together, but malleable enough for him to open the box.
Additionally, I just kept trying to make it better... The full version saw ten printed iterations!!
The RaceBox Mini and Full version were designed in Autodesk Fusion 360.
The RaceBox was designed 'in half' like this. Then I mirrored the half to make a whole. Pro tip.
I designed a really nifty snap for the handle, to keep it from coming out. I later found out that removing the handle enables a really cool feature on the full version... It's an Easter egg function! So this beautiful snap no longer exists.
