Description

I designed this for the Toy Cars Competition.

Having recently replaced my very slightly worn V-Slot wheels on my 3d printer I'd been looking for a use for the old ones.

The car is a simple easy print. 20% Infill and 0.2 mm layers is fine. You just need:

  • 4 x V-slot wheels - the kind that run on 2020 extrusions (see pictures);
  • 4 x M5 approx. 30mm machine screws (20mm works fine too);
  • Optional - 4 x M5 nuts (lock or use thread locker);
  • Filament ideally in two contrasting colours.

Print the car body, the rear spoiler and the driver.

The screws tap their own thread, but you can insert a nut to reduce the risk of them pulling free. Don't tighten all the way up to the wheel, leave a tiny bit of play for super smooth running.

Push the driver and the rear spoiler into place. The spoiler is a resistance fit, but add a drop of glue if you want to make it permanent. The driver should be a looser fit so they can fly out in the event of a crash!

The toy car is satisfyingly heavy. It runs really smoothly and it's really pretty fast.

I really enjoyed designing this, its great to give those v-slot wheels a second life.

There are small parts here that could present a choking hazard, especially to young children. The driver and spoiler should be glued in place if you let anyone who might be likely to swallow small parts, and supervise use.

Thanks for looking at my model.
