Description
I designed this toy car to use some spare parts I had laying around: 608 bearings and 8mm x 100mm linear rod. It was my first time trying to model a car. It is very roughly based on the late 80's european touring cars.
To make it:
Besides filament you will need 4 bearings and 2 rods and a hobby knife. I would print the tires and spacers at the same time. Print the hub caps seperately so they can be a different color. When you print the hub caps Prusa Slicer will automatically detect that you might want a color change part way through. Click that little notification if you want dual color like I did. I printed the all this at .2 layer height with a .4 nozzle. You can print the main car at the same but it will take like 12 hours. I decided to finally swap in a .6 nozzle and printed at .35 layer height and it cut it down to under 6 hours. You could also probably print at .3 layer height on the .4 nozzle.
You could probably model up something to replace the rods and maybe even the bearings but I had these left over from a spool holder project.
After you get everything printed, put the tires on the bearings. Then try fitting the spacers on the rods. They should be very tight to hold the bearings on. If you can't get them to fit scrape the inside with the hobby knife a little. Same with the hub caps. They should also be tight to hold the bearings on. Once you can get the spacers on put one spacer on each rod and then the wheel and hub cap. Slide the rod through the body and then put the other spacer on followed by the bearing and hub cap. Done!
