Description

Hello!

This Glider has been based off one the worlds most sold aircraft since 1986, the Airbus A320. 

Both the wing (and body) shape as well as the tail wing/stabiliser are nearly identical to the actual plane however to allow the plane to glide the body of the aircraft has been changed. 

Scaled down to around 1:355 (Wingspan of 64m to now 180mm) of the real aircraft.

When making this model I made sure that it would be able to fit my Prusa Minis 180x180x180mm build volume so take care when scaling for larger printers.

Printing: 

When printing I would recommend using a layer height of 0.1mm as this stiffens up the wings and also allows for more detail in the wings. I would also use either 0% infill or 5% lightning to lighten the glider. Using these settings will allow the print to finish in just over an hour and a half!

The stick used to launch the plane can be printed at 0.25mm with a high infill (20-25%)

I printed all parts using PLA+ however regular PLA, PETG and ABS would also be suitable.

there are also no supports required!

 

Assembly:

Assembly can be done without glue by just friction fitting however I do recommend a little glue especially on the tail wing.

Attach the rubber band as seen in the bellow photo. 

 

Use:

I would only use this outside as its capable of going quite the distance. if at all you find it veers off to one side adjust by slightly bending the wings until it is stable

P.s.

For a more stable flight you may want to make the wings Dihedral by bending a sheet of paper between two objects then placing the plane between. Then, using a hairdryer (or heat gun) carefully heat the plane wings which will mould the gliders wings to the shape of the paper.
