Description

The Idea:

  • Dice tower for The Castles of Burgundy (or any other 14 mm³ dice)
  • use one of the pockets of the original box insert to fit a dice tower
  • compact foldable design which allows minimal table space (video of the folding action)
  • magnets which hold the tower in both the open and closed position (not necessary)
  • folding mechanism inspired by @Ulmeck

Design Process:

  • optimizing use of space by two part design
  • minimizing used filament by bridging with minimal support

Overall dimensions (folded closed):

weightheightwidthdepth
68 g43 mm112 mm52 mm

Print recommendations:

  • both printed with 0.4 Nozzle in 0.2 Layer height
  • 15% Infill
  • PLA (Das Filament “Blue Pearl”)

Orientations:

The Tower:
  • one of the pivot holes is closed by a sacrificial bridging layer (will be removed later) this side should be facing up
  • Support Everywhere, they'll be generated on the openings to allow clean bridging
The Tray:
  • Support only on build plate only (to hold the rotation pins)

Post Processing:

  • remove supports and sacrificial layer in the pivot hole

Additional Parts:

  • 6 cylindrical Magnets of 5 mm diameter and 1 mm height (amazon) they aren't visible, so if you don't want to use them nobody will notice, but they provide a really satisfying feeling while opening and closing

Assembly:

  • be very careful to place the magnets in the right directions
The Tower:

  • remove the one bridge layer in the top pivoting hole (deburring tool works best)
  • glue in two magnets on each side !!!both in the same direction!!! I'd suggest holding them in a stack and sliding one into each pocket with a drop of superglue

The Tray:
  • glue in one magnet on each side !!!check polarity on the Tower!!! I'd recommend placing one on each side of the Tower, then putting glue in the Tray holes and then sliding it over the tower, so you are sure to have them in the right direction
