Once started, this levitating toy's Rotor will continue to spin for 5 to 6 minutes.
Non-printed items required are:
- 10 neodymium magnets 30mm x 5mm in size. www.amazon.ca/gp/product/B07Z3VFGDW (please note that I have ordered and used these magnets several times before and even though they are listed at 32mm (1.26”) they are actually 29.5 mm.)
- One ball bearing about 6mm in diameter. I suggest non-ferrous material such as the Airsoft plastic Ammo BB.
- For best results a 70mm diameter 2mm thick piece of glass or Plexiglass for the front contact plate. Any smooth non-ferrous material should work. The fore/aft position of contact between the ball bearing and glass or plastic is critical. A printed one is provided but the surface should be printed using the ironing setting on in the Prusa slicer. The surface can then also be polished to provide a smooth finish. It may also be considered to print the plate in ABS and use Acetone smoothing to provide a smooth surface.
The Rotor has 4 magnets inside. I usually place each pair with the poles facing in opposite directions. The Base has 2 magnets at the front and 4 magnets at the back. The direction of the poles must be set to repel the corresponding magnets in the Rotor. The Magnet Holders must be oriented as indicated to precisely position the magnets.
