This is a set of parts to build a presentation stand for the lightbike model.
BOM:
6x m3 12mm
6x m3 nuts
1x blue El wire battery kit
main filament colour
white filament colour
CA glue
Masking tape
250mm x 100mm rectangle of 3mm acrylic
Printing:
The 3mf is the correct scale and has the orientation i used, although support preference may not be contained, I used tree auto support for all but the tron lettering panels which were normal grid supports
The STL are all original scale, so you must rescale the stl to 1 (from 100%) to be in scale with the rest of the lightbike model.
The Build:
- The build is straight forward enough,
- Connect the main body parts together with the bolts and nuts
- Clip in the front panels
- Run the crossing front to back loop el wire first (one wire will do the whole front to back loops with about 10cm spare)
- Then the left to right run el wire (you'll have about 10cm spare here too)
- Finally work on the light wall wire…
- Mark out your wheel curve and wall hieght on your acrylic sheet (the wall is as high as your bike, you'll need to sort out the exact cut out dimensions for your model and el wire layout (plus i've already glued it into my model so can't take accurate measurements :( ))
- Cut the sheet to close to your line, sand back to your mark to leave a smooth finish
- Place in a clamp, top side up and attach some masking tape to the far side, run a very fine bead of CA glue along the top of the sheet.
- Thread the el wire through the wall slot end on the base, take the end stop off the wire and secure it to the top of the sheet with the tape, bedding it on to the CA glue bead, repeat along the top edge.
- Leave to dry and then repeat around the wheel curve and then along the bottom.
- Glue in the tron letters to the body.
- Slot in the batterybutton box and connect all the cables
- Clip on the end panels to hide the el wire entry points, tuck the front and rear el wire loops in and under, you can use a dab of CA glue to keep them in place if needed.
- Glue the light wall to the base, ensuring your lightbike can sit in the slots without needing the kickstand out.
lessons learned in this make: superglue and blue masking tape are not a good mix. arcylic stinks and is awful to work with, el wire are really not bright enough for the application, but they are very flexible and adaptable.
