Description

I was watching this YouTube video about a Balance Bird, and I was like, "Hey, I can make something like that... kinda." Not the bird itself, but the idea of having an object that's perfectly balanced in a seemingly impossible way.

So, I came up with this "spaceship" design, sort of like a sketch of one. It's pretty rough, but the cool part is the balancing act!

Now, fair warning, it does require a special printing setup. I've included two 3mf files - one for Prusa Slicer and another for Bambu Studio (sorry Cura users...). In the 3mf, you'll see the spaceship and a modifier volume. The way I balanced the ship in the middle was by shifting the weight to the front with two different infill values - 10% in the back and 64.6% in the front.

Print Settings:
Material: PLA
Layer Height: 0.2
Infill: Variable (check 3mf)
Walls: 2 or 3
Supports: No
Brim: No
Raft: No
Special: Modifier Volume (check 3mf)

Oh, and in the process, I discovered a small bug where the slicer forgets to show the decimals of the infill, but they're still there, don't worry.

After you print the ship, you can also print the stand in vase mode, and a cap that you can glue to the cone printed in normal mode.

And then it's just a fun game of finding the exact balance of the ship and placing it in the stand. It's pretty remarkable how stable it is, honestly.

I hope you have fun with this model! If you have any questions or suggestions, hit me up in the comments. And if you wanna support me, give it a like, download it, and share it with your friends. Happy printing!
