Description

It's the Nobel Prize, for Pete's sake! One does not just lay the Nobel Prize down on the table...

This is a stand to display the Nobel Prize that is part of the board game Weather Machine, and there is a portrait of Alfred Nobel himself at the top of the stand. The stand will display either the original wood version of the Prize that comes with the game, or the metal version that comes with upgrades. The stand folds up and easily fits in the game box.

The easel itself is a remix from the Fusion 360 file provided by Eunny (Thingiverse) and Threehanded (Printables). The Nobel portrait is my own creation starting from a black-and-white image found on the web.

Notes:

The easel was printed at 0.4 mm resolution as a single piece - the back leg gently breaks away from the A-frame stand. Supports were used to print the easel.

The Alfred Nobel portrait was printed at 0.2 mm resolution using two filament swaps.

The portrait was superglued onto the easel, and serves as the stopping brace for the back leg.

How I Designed This

The .F3D file shared by Eunny and Threehanded was modified in Fusion 360 to the dimensions appropriate for the size of the Nobel Prize. The design was exported as a .STL file into MeshMixer.

The Alfred Nobel portrait was designed in Fusion 360. A .JPG black-and-white portrait of Alfred Nobel was modified in Gimp, converted to a .SVG file using Inkscape, and imported into Fusion 360 for extrusion. The final design was exported as a .STL file into MeshMixer.
