Description

Little remix of 3D printing world's collapsible light saber. Original model files are here:

https://www.prusaprinters.org/prints/3721-collapsing-lightsaber-removable-blade

I modified the end cap model to have a V-ring, more true to the original screen used Lightsabers. The ring prints at the same time as the cap and I just used a "pause" in the layers to allow me to remove the V ring from the plate and snap it into the cap before resuming the print above it. Gives it a real screen look and adds an additional play feature.

I also removed the switch panel from the side and made it a separate print so that I could do layered printing and filament swaps to show the different colors. This is an amazing model and my kids have loved playing with them, I wanted to make a few of these modifications just to up the realism and give it even more.

I also modeled an optional replacement endcap that has room to fit the cheap harbor freight LED flashlights, the ones you can get for free with a coupon or pick up for under two dollars. No modifications are needed at all, just slip the flashlight right into the holder and thread it on the hilt. The on/off button switch at the bottom is still accessible from a hole in the bottom and allows for the flashlight to be removed when you need to change batteries. Making these light up has taken the play to the next level and using a cheap and readily available flashlight was an upgrade I felt like most anyone could tackle.

Print instructions

I printed mine using prusament PLA and the standard profile from Prusa on my MK3s and set regular filament swaps for the different layer colors. The end effect is incredible!
