Lego-ish Lightsaber Hilt designed for Pool Noodles

APOLOGIES to the first dozen or so people who viewed this. I uploaded an error that is now fixed.

I've printed now the “Lego Lightsaber Hilt (Human Scale)" by ReProps several times. This model addresses a couple little issues I had with trying to add a ‘blade’ to the print.

I've added a hole to the top, such that a US standard ½ inch PVC pipe (link) will fit snugly into the hilt.  This so happens to also fit perfectly the inner diameter of a pool noodle (DollarTree, Walmart, Amazon), and makes a great ‘blade’ that is soft and replaceable.

I also modified the bottom section of the hilt to not need supports, as well as modified the middle to have the PVC pipe go through it as to allow for using the PVC pipe as an alignment tool.

You'll need:

• The 3D printed hilt
• Glue (I like super runny CA glue)
• 12 inches of PVC pipe (local hardware store)
• A foam pool noodle

Assembly is simple.

1. Print the hilt.
2. Glue the hilt together. You can use the PVC pipe to align the top and mid sections of the hilt.
3. Cut the PVC pipe to between 6 and 10 inches long (I find 8-9 inches to be best).
4. Insert the PVC pipe into the cutout, using glue to attach it permanently.
5. Cut the pool noodle to roughly x3 the hilt length (28 inches)
6. Push the pool noodle over the PVC pipe, until it butts up against the 3D print. This should be held firmly by friction. If not, use some tape and wrap it around the exposed PVC pipe several times and re-fit the pool noodle.

Print several and your kids can have mock lightsaber battles without having to worry about being hurt!

Supports and Print Settings

• This model only needs supports for the middle section. The overhangs and bridges on the top and bottom parts are fine without supports.
• I use PLA

I've included a pre-supported and modified PLA profile in the files of this project.

You can also just print the “Head.3mf” and pair it with the rest of the lightsaber from ReProps.
