Altered CaptainSlug's adapter (from 2019) to fit into my Longshot and Talon mags. Other upgrades have been made progressively (Compatibility with other blasters, various tweaks).
No shade at CaptainSlug's design though, I understand it was designed for the Caliburn and the alternative version for generic Nerf magwells was an afterthought. Not to mention that katanas were more prevalent at the time.
Feedback welcome - I only have so range when it comes to testing.
Compatibility
So far I'm finding that it fits my generic Nerf blaster magwells in general, since the geometry is more or less identical. So far I've had good experiences with springers, but since it's not a full-forward adapter, I can't necessarily recommend this with flywheelers.
“Longshot" release lever compatible with:
- Recon/Retaliator
- Rapidstrike
- Stryfe
- Longshot
- NOT compatible with Recon MKII due to handguard
“Stampede” release lever compatible with:
Assembly:
< Assembly video to be made >
- Print V4 without supports, unless I've gotten around to removing that sacrificial support
- Use needle-nosed pliers or similar to rip out the sacrificial piece
- Use a scrap piece of filament to hold the mag release in place, apparently a toothpick works also
Changes (Summary):
V1:
- Works in longshots
- Can't use talons
V2:
- Hopefully easier print
- Clamp to use elastic bungee cord/hairties
- Can't use thin rubber bands easily
V3:
- Hopefully easier print/clamp
- Hollow front bit, slimmed down base
V4:
- WIP - changes to be made based on feedback
- Scalloped sides
- Reinforced sides
- Sacrificial piece
- Compatible sideswipe release
Changes (Detailed):
V1:
- Added key slots for magwell forward fins similar to Slug's Tk_Adapter_Alt.stl version
- Key slots are less aggressive than CaptainSlug's, so the mag is seated backwards slightly relative to the large magwell.
- To compensate for key slots, I tightened the Talon mag slot, resulting in possible katana incompatibility (Note that CaptainSlug's version opts to forego this compensation, hence my separate version)
- Mag release also had to be trimmed down slightly as the shell was pressing on it, causing the mag to drop.
- Mag release slot sides shaved down for use in Longshot due to the large magazine catch.
V2:
- Reduced some bridged overhangs with 45 degree ramps for ease of printing
- Replace rubber band hook with M3 fastened plate for bungee/hairties instead
- Since rubber bands are somewhat less durable. Not sure about o-rings, though.
- Reduced bottom place thickness for slimmer profile when inserted. Extra mass/strength seemed unnecessary.
V3:
- Replaced remaining bridged overhangs to properly eliminate bridging/support needs.
- Repositioned/increased size of cord clamping plate.
- Increased space around hook on lever for cord.
- Trimmed lever down further for cleaner edges.
- Hollowed out front section slightly, less plastic to print.
V4 (To be tested further):
- Cleaned up a few stray edges and sizings
- Trimmed extra plastic from front further
- Slightly tighter magwell
- Slightly sturdier sides
- Slightly looser/more aggressive keyslots (Fit was a little tight)
- (Floating) Sacrificial piece at mag indent
- I've made the "sacrificial piece" floating instead of attached by .2mm based on feedback on removability. I'd appreciate feedback on this.
- (Rip this out after printing)
- This should allow for no supports during slicing
- Scallop as per Meaker's changes in his version to accommodate loading over sealed breeches https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3493758
- Sideswipe style release for Stampede inspired by https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3523945
- Flat release lever based on feedback
- TODO: Full forward version for flywheelers? https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:3863914
