Description

HVAR (High-Velocity Aircraft Rocket) from WW2, and ATAR (Anti-Tank Aircraft Rocket) used in the Korean war (together with the HVAR).

ATAR, the lesser known variant, was used with F-80 Shooting Star, F-51 Mustang, and F4U Corsair, according to Wikipedia. There are photos proving their use on F9F Panther (in combat) and on F8F Bearcat (during testing) as well. Use with some other types, such as AD Skyraider or F2H Banshee sounds plausible (EDIT: proven by a photo of a Skyraider as well - six ATARs under each wing!). The ATARs were a mixed success at best, but they did score some North Korean tanks, and also, they sure look badass.

Everything is scaled to 1/72. The stabilizers are slightly out of scale, I made them thicker for better printability.

The positioning of bands for securing the rocket to the pylon is a bit tricky. There were at least two variants (for narrower and wider pylons) and it seems sometimes they were placed differently even on the same aircraft (i.e. the rockets were staggered).

I made at least two main variants of the bands: with narrow spacing and wide spacing, the exact interval only guessed according to some photos of F4Us and F9Fs.

So, there are these STLs:

- separate ATAR warhead
- separate HVAR warhead
- complete ATAR with a narrow band spacing
- complete ATAR with a wide band spacing
- complete HVAR with a narrow band spacing
- complete HVAR with a wide band spacing
- separate rocket body with a narrow band spacing
- separate rocket body with a wide band spacing
- separate rocket body with no bands at all

Phew!

Any feedback will be appreciated.
