Description

Pylos (AKA Strat-O-Sphere, Pyraos, or Elevation) is a board game created by David G. Royffe. I recently happened upon the game and decided I wanted to play it, figured it looked incredibly simple to replicate, and decided it's getting printed!

Apologies for not tidying up the balls before taking pictures!

I originally made this 2cm deep and it had a fillet surrounding the body, but felt that it seemed a bit excessive when it came to printing it, so lopped off the bottom 1cm and left it as is, which should also make printing easier as the bottom is completely flat now.

I completely eye-balled this and it was very much so winged, so until printing is finished I don't even know if it'll fit or work! - now printed, and not the worst! An issue with the current design is that all 30 balls do not fit in the channel around the outside, so I need to make a bigger board (likely leaving the balls & play area the same size, but padding out the gap to the edge so that the perimeter is longer for more balls, though this doesn't affect play too much, just means you need to keep your balls in a sack or similar ball-storage area.

You need 30 balls to play, 15 each, but I'm printing 16 to have a spare per person. I had a huge amount of difficulty printing the balls, as expected. I've had luck printing them with a raft, layer height of 0.16mm, 10% infill, 250mm/s. The bottom is a bit rough but I don't think it's a huge problem. I can't upload my gcode because AnkerSlicer doesn't like making files you can upload to printables.

I do not own the rights to Pylos nor am I affiliated with David G. Royffe or Gigamic. This project was created purely for fun and is not for sale as I expect that this would be against Gigamic's terms! If it was an original creation you could do what you want, but I don't wish to upset Gigamic.
