Description

I wanted a infinity cube, which has complete hinges instead of cones for the joints, which can be printed without infinite overhangs because of the fillets of the joints or edges of the cube.

So i designed one on my own. Improvements compared to other models are:

  • no overhangs by fillets, replaced by chamfer/fillet combination
  • complete hinges for joints, not only cones (picture)
  • snug fit, feels not loose while playing
  • easy to print
  • 4cm side length when folded, easy to carry with you

Printing recommendation

  • 0.2mm layer height
  • plenty of part cooling fan
  • PLA
  • outer wall printing first for precision (outside to inside)
  • lay the side with the 4 joints flat on the build plate (picture)
  • use good quality filament. Very cheap filaments tend to stick too well for loosing the joints afterwards.

This model needs a good calibrated printer because of the tight tolerances (0.3mm). My goal was making it as tight as possible to feel premium and not as loose as other models. Make sure to print the walls (perimeter shells) from outside to inside.

After printing the hinges should be strong enough to loosen the joints by using some force. After turning the elements of the cube for 10x it should work easy, but tight enough to be satisfying.

Have fun and leave a photo of your make! Eventually you could also mention the material you're using for others to help deciding.

Filaments i CANNOT recommend

  • Sunlu PLA, PLA+
  • JAYO PLA, PLA+
  • Kingroon PLA, PLA+

Very nice working filaments

  • Extrudr NX2 PLA
  • PolyMaker PolyTerra PLA
