Description
Just in time for spooky season, here is a 1:12 scale model of a burial casket! It's the perfect place for your dollhouse Dracula to take a nap. Or you can use it as a decoration anywhere you please.
The handles, bat and cross decorations are printed as separate files in order to eliminate the the need for supports and increase the detail achieved for these parts. This also allows you to print them in a different color filament, or more easily paint them, as I did, before gluing them to the body of the casket.
***UPDATED the hinges now print as part of the lids for much easier assembly.
Print the lids with their flat ends down and use tree supports to support the hinges and the curve of the other end.
There is a hole running the length of the casket body at the back. This allows you to attach the lids through the hinges using a straight piece of filament or a similar-sized piece of wood or metal. If you use a piece of filament, the straighter it is, the easier this will be. I also rubbed it with some candle wax to lubricate it, which made a big difference. If you use filament like I did, I recommend inserting a piece halfway in from either end. Trim it flush and lock it in place with a dab of glue at the ends.
I used CA glue (aka super glue) to glue on the decorations.
I then lined the casket with some red fabric to complete the look.
