Description
!!! THIS IS AN UDATED VERSION !!! – The real photographs are from the old version and the ones from Tinkercad are the new one!
Intro: An easy to print version of The Night Cage, including all the passage tiles, monster tiles, tokens and a nice tile holder. Unfortunately, not all the tiles are exactly the same because the monster tiles would be very difficult to design/print so I changed their design a bit, always trying to replace the original with something similar or close to it at least.
Model Info: The tiles are all 40*40*2.2, a little larger than the 30*30*2 that I originally printed. I found out that the 30*30 tiles are too small and some details on the top surface get easily lost so I decided to make them larger. This does make the printing process take longer and a bit more expensive but it is well worth it, but it is possible to shrink down the tiles up to 30*30mm but keep the z height to 2.2mm.
The tile holder now that the tiles are bigger is not as necessary as it was with the 30*30 tiles because the larger ones can be stacked much easier, but nevertheless the holder is a nice addition to the game.
For the new verison I changed the ‘cracked’ effect on certain tiles to look like the original ones a bit more.
For my first 30*30 version I used a small leather chess board, which I bought for 2 euros and I think it is better to buy something like that than printing an additional board, especially for the larger version. However, there are many printable chess boards here on printables and on other websites that you can choose from, if that is something that you wish to go for, just remember to scale it up or down in order for every square to be 40*40mm.
Printing Details: Print everything at 0.2mm layer height, with 3 perimeters and 4 top and bottom layers. The nerve tokens are ideally printed standing but if you have 1st layer adhesion issues and want to avoid using a brim print them on their back. The only part that needs support is the tile holder unless you want to print the version without the side candles. Also, you can add a layer change script starting at the 1.4mm mark for all the tiles in order to make the face of the tiles more visible but it is not something necessary (check pictures taken from Tinkercad). Finally, check the attached txt file or the rulebook to see how many tiles to print.
Sources/Remixes: For the nerve tokens I slightly modified the ‘Flame Game Pieces’ by Chris Bray (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:2399951) and for the Prisoner Pieces I recommend that you print these 'Candle Pieces' by DHDUO (https://www.thingiverse.com/thing:6120499)
You can find the story, rules and other details about The Night Cage on their website: https://www.thenightcage.com and the trailer of the game here.
