Hextraction Secret Question Block Tile Lid

This remix of Zack Freedman’s Hextraction Secret Tiles introduces an alternative lid design.

Instead of a flat question mark, this design is inspired by the Question Blocks found in the popular Nintendo Super Mario games.

Print Settings

This lid should be properly oriented and is designed to be printed without supports. For best results, print using a 0.15mm layer height. I used a 15% gyroid infill. To minimize bridging distances, use an Infill - Advanced - Bridging Angle of 45°. When starting the print, tune it to print at 50% Print Speed until after it completes the first layer of bridging of the question mark depressions for best bridging appearance and then you can set it back to 100%. The bridging doesn't need to be perfect since a rough texture can help with glue adhesion when attaching the question marks and hex bolts.

• 24x “Super_Mario_Question_Block_Switch_Screws.stl” from Question Block Nintendo Switch Game Cartridge/Micro SD Card Holder by Elitecgi (use a light brown filament like Inland Light Brown PLA)

Question Marks:

• 1x “4_Question_Marks.stl” from Question Block Nintendo Switch Game Cartridge/Micro SD Card Holder by Elitecgi (use a white filament like Prusament Pristine White or Pearl White PLA and orient the print face down so that the face of the symbol gets the nice texture from your print bed rather than the rough nozzle surface that the tops of prints usually have). I highly recommended that you also turn on 1 perimeter on the 1st layer.

Screw and Washer:

• 1x M3x10 screw and 1x washer to attach the flipper to the flipper tile base

Assembly:

1. Glue the question marks and bolts to the lid.
2. Do not glue the lids to the bases so players can rotate the lids before placing the tiles on the board for a randomized path during game play.
3. If you make the flipper tile, place the washer between the base and the flipper and then screw them together using the M3x10 screw.
4. Slide the lids onto the tile bases. The fit is not permanent but snug.
