Overview

Here's my idea of a flying Batman. It was quite a difficult idea because this model has no tail and behaves like a flying wing. To obtain satisfactory flight characteristics, I had to test dozens of prototypes, testing small improvements, and each time I made minor corrections. My goal was to create a model that looks like Batman, flies well, stands on legs and can be fired by hand, a rubber band or my Ultimate Plane Launcher ( https://www.printables.com/pl/model/415098-ultimate-plane-launcher). Unfortunately, I was unable to combine all these features in one model. That's why I'm making two versions

Batman Standing - He can fly, but he is a bit wobbly in flight as he is quite short, his main feature is that he can stand and can be fired with my Ultimate Launcher, he can also be fired by hand and with a rubber band.

Batman Glider - Flies better than the previous version as it is slightly longer, cannot stand, and cannot be launched with the Ultimate Launcher, but can be launched with your hand and a rubber band.

Fun fact

To design this model I printed above 20 prototypes. Below are photos of my box of prototypes and different shapes that I tested :)

Printing

I used PLA filament and a layer height of 0.2 mm.

100% infill ensures good balance.

I achieved the color by changing the filament on a specific layer.

You can experiment with the bottom surface pattern (I used concentric) and, of course, change the colors as you wish.

The first layer should be very well calibrated because the main wing only has one layer.

Flying

The model is quite sensitive to wind, so it should be flown indoors. It can fly outdoors in windless weather.

Throw it like paper plane with moderate force.

To good flight you have to bend a little wing at the back like in photo

You can use a rubber band to launch. Hook it behind the head.

If you like this project, check out my other flying models both exclusive and free.

Have fun
