This is a simple faux scope. Basically, a fancy tube with a crosshair and some picatinny brackets.
There are three crosshair options, two different lengths, and adjustable picatinny bracket spacing.
Changelog:
- 5-18-2024: Release.
- 5-23-2024: Added some raised scope brackets to hold the scope higher.
- 6-11-2024: Added the missing scope alignment groove to the bottom of FrontScopeBody.
Hardware
(all M3 screws used are cap head)
- 1/2in Sch40 PVC pipe, 9 inches long
- 2x M3x30 Screws
- 1x M3x16 Screw
- 9x M3x8 Screws
- 2x Pieces of filament (used as alignment pins) 1.75mm diameter, 10mm long.
- (optional) 2x M3 Heat Set Threaded Inserts
Printing
- I printed all of these at 5 walls 10% gyroid infill.
- MiddleScopeBody, BracketBottom, and BracketTop all benefit from brims.
- DO NOT USE BRIMS ON THE FRONTCAPS! Removing them from around the crosshairs is extremely difficult to do without damaging the crosshair. These print fine with NO brims.
- DO NOT use heat to clean up any stringing on the FrontCaps. The heat will melt the crosshairs!
Assembly
Read all of this before starting any steps of assembly!
- The three ScopeBody parts (Back, Middle, Front) go over the PVC pipe, and are held in place by a small amount of glue (I used super glue).
- There are little slits around the ends of the ScopeBody parts to line up during assembly, to keep everything straight.
- The holes should be loose enough to slide onto the pipe with relative ease. There should NOT be any hammering involved.
- I HIGHLY RECOMMEND that you dry fit these parts before gluing. And look down it while it is dry fit to make sure everything is straight and aligned correctly.
- I recommend gluing the FrontCap and BackCap to their respective ScopeBody parts before gluing the ScopeBody to the pipe.
- Make sure the little grooves on the ScopeBodyFront and Back are facing down. They align the Brackets.
- If you are using a light colored filament, any text on the pipe might be visible through the thinner printed areas. You can remove the text from the pipe using acetone and a paper towel (in a well ventilated area).
- The FrontCap and BackCap are also held on with a small amount of glue.
- BackCap is aligned by using two small pieces of filament as pins in the respective holes. FrontCap is aligned by geometry on the parts themselves.
- The knobs are held on by screws. M3x16 for the top knob (and two spacers), and M3x8 for the side knob.
