Description

A Lego Technic base for mounting on the Sparkfun XRP Robot.

The models provided include a frame and clips and pins to hold the frame onto the frame of the robot. This way you can use your existing body and you can simply click the frame on and off.

The robot body model was derived from the .3md files available here:  the body model is not included in the files. I used PrusaSlicer to clean the extra objects from the provided body model so it could be imported into OpenSCAD

The LEGO compatible rack parts parts were created using the incredible part designer. I modified them where necessary to grip around the robot body. On the LEGO I used a hole pattern to provide support in vertical direction and fixation in horizontal direction.

Apply clamps and supports as necessary for your project. The clamps grip under the robot body and in the side of the rack to prevent the rack coming off the body. The supports provide vertical support and prevent the rack moving sideways or forward-aft.

The OpenSCAD file is included.

I made for the july 2024 contest. However robot is not or hardly available in EU so printing this would be useless. I had to go virtual only. I have not printed this and I could not make photos or test it.

When printing LEGO Technic parts that would require supports, I get the best results by printing them in ASA as two halves that need no support and weld them using acetone: on a flat metal ot glass baseplate put a tissue and drip a few drops of acetone on it. Then place the surfaces to be welded on the wet tissue for a few seconds and then take them off and within a second clamp them together.
