Board game mat storage for IKEA KALLAX or similar

Overview

This is a simple way to store boardgame playmats (or any other vaguely cylindrical object of diameters around 100 mm) on the side of your furniture. It is modular so you can have as many spaces as you need just by printing the appropriate number of parts, there is an upper, which is what attaches to the furniture, a mid section and a lower section. You will need at least 2 uppers, 2 lowers and however many mid sections you need to accomodate your collection.

There are 4 versions of the upper section, two that have suitable holes for a #4 or a #6 woodscrew (UpperCountersunk #*), one that is left plain (Upper) and one that clamps onto the side of the KALLAX in order to stay in place(UpperClamp). You can use a 3M Command strip or equivalent to hold the plain version if what you are hanging is light enough. The UpperClamp variant of the design needs to be mirrored in the slicer in order to have both sides, in PrusaSlicer you just right click on the object on the build plate, go to ‘Mirror’ and then ‘Along Z Axis’ in this case.

Thanks to @AussieShane_2635832 here on Printables for the clamp concept and picture.

Mounting hardware required:

  • M4x6 socket cap screws
  • M4 nuts

PLUS

  • #4 or #6 woodscrews of length 10mm + your desired engagement

OR

  • 3M Command strips

Printing

I printed mine in Jet Black Prusament PETG on the Prusa Mini with a 0.4 mm nozzle.
