This is a replacement connector pin for toy train sets (Ikea Lillabo, Melissa & Doug, Thomas & Friends, Imaginarium, etc.). It looks like some older models of these tracks used plastic pins before switching to the all wooden connectors.
Note that this model is for 6mm diameter posts (I have seen some 4mm ones too in the wild).
Design features
- This specifically designed for FDM/FFF printing. It prints with the long axis on the print bed for maximum strength where the part is likely to be stressed. The rounded parts of the model are truncated for a 25 degree overhang that should be easy to do without supports.
- A flange ensures that the post is set at the correct depth.
- Transverse channels allow for glue to seep into the model, creating a stronger bond.
Variants
- 55-115 is a looser fit
- 55-120 is a tighter fit
Printing instructions
- Choose the variant you'd like
- Print the .stl as oriented (lying down)
Installation instructions
- Clean out the old hole so that it is 6mm in diameter and 8mm deep (the actual dimensions of the post).
- Test fit the part to make sure there is no gap between the flange and the wood.
- Apply an appropriate glue and insert the replacement pin.
- Align the replacement pin as shown in the picture and wait for the glue to set.
Notes
- I measured the one I had, so the dimensions might not be exact. If you have better measurements, please let me know and I can adjust the model.
