Description
As a child, I used to go camping with my Dad. During the day, he'd go fishing and I would explore the magnificent Australian bushland looking for unique rocks, shells and other natural treasures, memories I will treasure for the rest of my life.
For the Printables Summer Camping competition, I wanted to spark the same joy with the next generation of young explorers - so I designed these Nature Scavenger Hunt Dice which can be used with any amount of players or even solo. I've also designed a small trinket case, so that you can keep the dice safe and tidy in your backpack.
The rules are very simple - define your own terms for the symbols, roll the dice, and GO EXPLORING!
The dice have two sets of patterns:
1. Object Die
This die defines what type of object or creature you are trying to find:
These are just a guide - they can mean whatever you want them to!
2. Conditions Die
Now that you know WHAT you're trying to find - it is time to set the conditional rule for winning a competition among family and friends!
Will you find the largest leaf, the prettiest flower, the brightest rock? Or will you make up completely different rules for these dice? Perhaps you have younger kids and only need the Object die, so that you can both find a special item together without applying extra rules. Perhaps you can somehow use the dice to prompt stories around the campfire…
The choices, as always, are yours to make. I'd love to hear what you come up with!
I have uploaded pre-painted .3MF files for those of you with multi-colour compatible machines. These can be repainted however you wish - every single component of the icons can be coloured individually if you choose. For simplicity's sake, I have kept my painting to two colours as per my sample prints. :)
There are also ‘Cutout’ STL versions available for single-colour printing. The logos are embossed (cut) into the dice instead of being a different colour, and will be a lot faster and simpler to print.
I don't have any special settings to recommend but as always, results will be vastly improved by slowing down your print (especially for the first layers due to the intricate shapes) and having a layer height of 0.2mm or less - my examples are printed at 0.2mm.
STLs of the multi-colour prints are also available but this will mean you have to paint dozens of pieces yourself, I recommend downloading the .3MF files instead!
Thanks for reading. It would truly make my heart happy to see these inspiring young explorers, please share your creations and stories with me!
Happy adventuring. :)
