(WORK IN PROGESS)
This model is a redesign of a HeroClix custom dial with the following improvements:
- Redesigned the Base for easier turning and looser fit
- Redesigned the Top to allow for custom insert of 2d printed dial info
- Added color ring to dial top for Old School version players
- Added Dial Cover for model attachment and to secure paper info (note: Dial cover is WIP currently may obscure range for multiple targets, points over 100, and/or names longer than “Storm Trooper”)
- (NEW) Added Flying Base and Flying Support
Instructions for 3D printed Parts:
- Dial Top should be printed right-side-up with standard supports, add in a manual color change for the ring if using a mono-filament printer.
- Dial Bottom prints fine without support but quality of the raised surface on the bottom may vary depending on your print settings.
- Dial cover is pretty thin, depending on your printer settings I would print on a small layer height and make sure to let cool before removal. consider increasing its thickness if quality is not consistent.
- (NEW) If Printing the flying base:
- Flying slider may need support depending on printer.
- Slider prints with a small gap and needs light use of a tool to “activate” it.
- slider works best by rotating out and then back in instead of lifting up.
- the bottom of the base has a small divot for alignment/placement on the Dial Top
- the Flying Support should be printed upside down and slowly for best results.
Instructions for 2D printed Parts:
- Custom dials can be made here: https://www.clixmaker.com/ (note that point values are not calculated by this site, I am working on a custom point calculator for Old School Heroclix, will include in update)
- Top dial info should be printed with a diameter of ~27.5mm
- Bottom dial info should be printed with a diameter of ~25.5mm
Additional tools needed:
- Crazy Glue
- Scissor or Hole Puncher
Assembly Instruction:
- 3D print all parts.
- a. I printed the character model directly onto the cover so there was one less part to glue.
- 2D print custom paper parts.
- Cut out a hole on the bottom paper dial along the black lines, place a small amount of glue to avoid color bleeding or a wet look - a Q-tip or toothpick may be helpful to get an even spread.
- Cut out the white trapezoid and cut a hole in the center of the Top paper dial. glue the paper to the Top in a similar fashion to the first part.
- Glue the cover onto top top, similarly apply a small amount of glue. make sure to get the edges and then hold together for around 30 seconds to a minute to assure the it glues flush. When applying pressure glue will spread out and may obscure text if there is too much.
