Description

This is a remix of Owen TF's “Fidget Switch” : https://www.printables.com/model/764872-fidget-switch/comments .

I wanted a small, simple switch that I could use as a reminder tool that I would carry with me in the coin pocket of my jeans. The original design was just the right size, but I wanted an enclosed version (with a back), and one that has the button integrated with the flex switch mechanism. With a back cover to hold in the mechanism, the interior slanted/chamfered surfaces were unnecessary. I modified those and did a few other tweaks, as noted below.

The model prints well and fast, even at the 100% infill that I printed (see attached graphics for print orientation). I printed with a one-line skirt, and no supports were necessary. The front and back pieces snapped together nicely, and seem to be secure (a dab of CA glue in each hole would permanently attach them. The switch mechanism is a little rough, and does not have a pleasing fidget feel – the original designer stated that some lubricant can help with this. Also, as a fidget toy in the hands of an adult, this design might actually be a little too small. However, for my purposes, the small size and the extra resistance is what I looking for – I want to flip the switch and have it stay in that position in my coin pocket until I take it out and flip the switch again.

UPDATE 2024-08-28:     I added two variations --

  • a lower profile switch version with tighter tolerances (the button is not as pronounced above the surface of the face, and there is a little less wiggle, but it is a little harder to click); and
  • a custom face with designs cut into it (this is to show that it is easy to modify the face for whatever purpose one would like).
