Pivoting Compact Scotty GoPro Mount

I wanted a compact, low profile, camera adapter for my kayak. I modeled this up to based on Prestonf's Scotty male end adapter. It seems like it'll fit my needs perfectly.

Print this part with no support material. The main Scotty adapter has a sacrificial cylinder that allows a good print and breaks off easily. I printed this at 50% infill in ABS. I would not skimp on the infill since this could be subject to some shock which could cause it to break along a layer line and potentially result in a lost camera.

To put this together, you'll need two 1/4-20 bolts (1 inch long for the main bolt. I used the same size and just cut it down for the camera bolt, but I think 1/2 inch would fit), and two1/4-20 nylock nuts. The JPEG image shows the basic assembly.

The two cylinders that fit on top of the Scotty post will have to be stuck together after the nylock nuts are inserted into their recesses and the camera end bolt screwed up into place. I used acetone to "weld" them together securely. This produces a very strong bond that I have tested on various parts. The part fails before the weld does.

Insert the bolt through the bottom and tighten into place with a screwdriver. Tightening or loosening this screw will allow you to adjust the tension on the pan.

Attach a gopro tripod adapter and you will have pan and tilt. I purchased an aluminum one from Amazon. A little locktite will keep the camera adapter from coming off the bolt if you use the camera to turn the whole mount.
