Description
I have a flip out face Pioneer head unit, AVH-7800BT and I have an old 87 Ford Bronco with a single DIN setup with the AC controls on top and simply NOT a suitable place to install a single DIN motorized, flip out face.
Oh yeah, I also don't want anyone recognizing the unit and thinking it's a good idea to steal it ;) My truck doesn't look fancy but it has no rear roof and I always keep the windows down unless it's cold. Considering how easy it is to steal a deck from one of these older trucks, I figured I'd add in a real deterrent. Make it look like the old crappy (cool at the time) cassette
tape deck :D
It's just a cover but you can add an LCD sticker or even a real LCD and all the fancy stuff to make it more like a stereo. If you wanna go the extra mile, get an old cassette tape like I did, cut off 1/4 of it, and glue it so it looks like a real tape is sticking out :D
So there are two pieces.
The Shim is mostly for my truck and the space I need to keep the deck out in order for clearance. I still think this piece will be necessary but that depends on if you can slide your deck out permanently. I plan to attach a SMALL piece of velcro to the top. I say small because it's a flip out so I'd like the cover to come off really easy and fall to the floor if the face moves out while the cover is on.
This solved problem #1
The Cover is the fake radio cover. Again, "deck" it out! But plain will do well enough. So if you've got a good flush proper install and don't need the shim, you'll still need a small piece of velcro to make this work for you. Stick it on top of your bezel, and then the other side to a relative spot that'll line up. I shouldn't have to explain ;)
This solved problem #2
So now you've got your fake deck! Leave the windows down, and walk away with a bit more piece of mind!
