Description
I created this to isolate my 3D printer from the table to reduce vibration (requires at least 4 - one for each corner), but it is also just fun to play with. The number of magnets determine how much weight can be supported by the floating top.
There is no stable arrangement of permanent magnets that will float without supports (See Earnshaw's Theorem : https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Earnshaw%27s_theorem), so this uses a holder and top and then either a rubber band or a weighted object to hold it in place.
The model uses #07046 neodymium magnets (https://www.amazon.com/Master-Magnetics-Super-Magnets-Mfg-07046/dp/B01MCTW9F2).
The Inventor file is attached if you want to customize the holder height or use a different magnet size.
