Description

This is an adapter for a ~215mm canister-type air filter(measured end-to-end, external dimension). You can use a number of standard types of filters, but since this is for a clean room project, I chose extremely high partial filtration parameters.

The unit is designed for use with a particular format of filter, with a deep tongue-in-groove seating. This seal is entirely dependent on the pressure generated from preloading the vulcanized end towards the open end of the canister, accomplished by an oversized, semi-spherical plug on the leading end of the device. On the exit side of the filter adapter, there is a plain, unflanged, circular 60mm opening. This is intended for a specific adapter I plan on using, but other modes of attachment can easily be designed and printed, ad hoc. I may add additional adapters to be printed separately, hand fitted, and adhered with Methyl Ethyl Ketone based glue (medium bodied, for polymers, of course). This has been marked [WIP] since I may upload more adapters for this as a sub-assembly.

A fine screen will be fitted on the egress piping of the completed assembly. It's important that this device is sealed, either thermally or with a polymer safe enamel that will not chip, in order to minimize the risk of both unfiltered air leaks and debris from printing artifacts.

Use this device at your own risk, use common sense in your application. Do not use ABS plastic, this was designed to be printed with rigid PLA, high infill density, and tight tolerances. Do not use this in an environment with ambient temperatures in excess of 85 degrees F to avoid material out-gassing or deformation as this part will be under load with a filter installed, or in the presence of any type of solvent vapors, organic or otherwise. It may be wise to employ a secondary coarse foam/mesh filter to avoid ingress of debris of printer artifacts or any other debris in case of a failure. If you're not sure about these things, maybe you shouldn't be doing whatever you are doing.

Enjoy.
