A new friend rekindled my love for the Firefly show & movie. (Thanks JediKep!)
He also introduced me to a Firefly community and a new board game. Some of the ships in the game are not represented by game pieces (models). So, with pictures from the game, I've created these 4 models and a board game peg for them. These are designed for the game and each one is only 2 inches long (just like the board game pieces). You're welcome to resize and print at whatever size you like, but know that many details are exaggerated to allow them to show up in a small 2 inch model.
Oh, and I didn't even know there was a fan-film short movie "The Verse" that was made with the same quality and love as the series! I met the director online and I'm going to create his ship "The Overland" next. Shooting for a 6 inch desktop model for this one tho.
And there are at least 5 or 6 more ships missing from the game. I may tackle those as well.
UPDATE: The 6 inch Overland is complete. See it Here.
UPDATE: The Overland reduction is complete. A 2 inch board game piece has been added. I included the 1 piece just to view the model as a whole, but I highly recommend printing the split model and joining the halves after. It prints soooooooo much better split.
UPDATE: Thanks to JediKep for the awesome stat cards to go along with each ship!! (sandfly coming soon)
UPDATE(12/14/18): Just in time for Christmas. The Sandfly. From the Firefly fan film "Bellflower". As promised. Another 2in model for the board game. Enlarge if you wish, but the details dimensions were exaggerated for the 2in size.
UPDATE(12/28/18): Another board game ship - The Sampan. I think the Kepler will be next. (11:30pm): Just updated the Sampan with more details. Now it's complete.
UPDATE(1/20/19): The original ship Monte flew. We didn't have a ship name for this one, so we're calling it : "Monty's Ship, the Beaumonde Belle."
UPDATE(2/11/19): The Kepler joins the ranks. JediKep's namesake is fly'n the verse.
3 versions attached. 1. the whole ship, mostly for viewing. 2. The split model - good for printing. 3. The split model with over-temp control, to keep the nose from melting - best for printing. I'll put a picture in the comments of what happens without temperature controls.
UPDATE(2/16/19): Tested "Shapeways" printing service. Was curious how a ship would look printed with DMLS (metal) and SLA (resin). I'm not disappointed. See the photos with the Gold Sandfly and Glowing Sandfly. The metal one is very heavy - pleasing to hold, and the Resin one transmits light nicely. I think I'll get more clear SLA ships printed and paint them, then remove the paint from windows and engine outlets and lights, then only those details will glow.
UPDATE(7/27/19): The Shu-Fu joins the fleet as the 10th ship in this collection. There are two versions this time; 1. Low Profile (LP) where the body panels are more accurate to the ship pictures. 2. High Profile (HP) where the body panels stick out more to accentuate the details. And the unsplit versions, mostly for looking at, but printable also.
UPDATE(3/17/20): With the Corona Virus limiting travel... I found some free time to build another. The "Alliance Fast Attach Ship" (AFAS) joins the fleet. You'll recognize this ship as the Shinigami war bird in the fan-film "The Verse". A request was made for a smaller model, since this is a small ship, comparatively. So, I've made a 1.5 inch and 2 inch version. Both are split for better printing. If you print the small 1.5, I've also included a smaller ship-peg for it. I printed this one with my 0.25 nozzel and 0.1 layer.
UPDATE(9/21/20): Etsy member printing and selling these ships now (see link at top). Nice quality and fantastic price. Also, I just realized I never uploaded a "split" version of the Fenris. I also fixed some geometry on the Fenris. So there are two new v2 files for the Fenris.
UPDATE(10/8/20): Uploaded a split version of the Peregrine and Chang'e so they can be printed cleaner with less supports. Now all models have a split version.
UPDATE(4/3/21): Another nice addition from JediKep - Drive core cards. I had to compress to < 500 KB to upload into the project files, but the copy JediKep posted as a make is twice the quality. You might want to download his. In Thingiverse, when you click on someone's photo, it will open the photo in a viewer. Don't save that one. Instead, at the top of the viewer it says "View Original". Click that then right click save the image. Then you'll have the full quality photo. Do that with JediKep's version and it will be a 1 MB picture. https://www.thingiverse.com/make:920628
UPDATE(2/20/23): Sorry for the delay - The ASREV is ready. I was going to try to publish a 1.5 inch model along with my standard 2 inch model, but this design does not reduce well. So just a 2 inch for now. There are 2 versions uploaded; a Split version for FDM printing with custom supports for the rear wing tips and 2mm alignment holes that perfectly fit toothpicks. There is also a Whole version for Resin printing. I'm using a "Tenacious" type resin that is mildly flexible and highly impact resistant! I can drop this from any height and it does not break. Great details too.
UPDATE(12/20/23): The Brutus and the Titan join the fleet. Both uploaded with a Split version for FDM printing and a Whole version for SLA printing. The split versions have a custom raft where the supports will be. This makes supports more reliable. Enjoy!! Also using short pieces of toothpick in alignment holes.
UPDATE(12/22/23): The Hanover joins the fleet. Split for FDM printing & Whole for SLA printing. The Split uses a 5mm long toothpick for alignment. The split has arms that snap on. Not sure if I want to glue them on.... so fragile. If I don't glue them, you can bump them and they fall off and can be put back on. But, if I glue them, a bump will surely break them. The "whole" version for SLA resin printing has fixed arms, so you need to use a "Tenacious" or "Nylon-like" resin with some flex, so they don't break. If there is interest, I can upload a whole version with detachable arms, like the FDM split version.
*uploaded correct "whole" version with peg hole.
UPDATE(12/28/23): The Firefly Series 4 is ready for printing. I must apologize. This might be one of the more difficult ships to print. The model needs to be split for FDM printing, but standing it's halves upright puts the engine struts (under main engine) vertical, making them so fragile they crumble to the touch. So, the struts had to be printed horizontal. So, after joining the halves, you must insert the struts into the slot at the bottom. This slot is unfortunately a bear to print and clean supports out of. The Whole version for SLA resin printing prints great with no assembly - but again, use "Tenacious" or "Nylon-like" resin for flexibility, or the struts will break very easy.
*speaking of vertical struts... I uploaded another horz. split version of the Fenris.
